If you're faced with a forced landing, fly the thing as far into the crash as possible.

August Meeting Notes

The August meeting of the Monroe County R/C Club was called to order at 7:08:48 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time), on August 10, 2005 with twenty-six people in attendance.

The first item on the agenda was a recap of the club’s annual air show. Mark thanked everyone involved for their hard work & fine performances. There will be some committees formed for next year’s show to handle concessions, parking, & advertising. Get on one now! There will be more flying before the show next year to keep the people entertained & a firm start time will be advertised. A date that doesn’t conflict with the NASCAR race in Indianapolis will be chosen next year also.

On the not-for profit status, Mark Sexton provided more details about why it was important for the club & why he would not remain as president if it wasn’t kept up. Brent Hoover found our federal ID number showing that we have 501C7 status.

Vargha Manshadi has seamlessly moved the club’s web site to Yahoo & it is operating fine. Steve Bryant is donating the money he spent to host the site on Iquest to the club. Thank you Steve!

Batteries Plus in Bloomington has set up a special account for the club for members to purchase batteries at reduced prices. Please give them a day or so to build your pack. They wish to cycle it three times before delivery.

The annual club picnic is September 11 at the club field. Tim Mellott will cook the meat on the club grill that Randy Byers will bring. Eating will start around noon. Members & guests are to bring a covered dish, drinks, & table service. The club will take care of the hotdogs & fixins. The flying will go on all day. Please plan to attend.

The meeting was closed at 7:44...

Interesting Bits

If anyone is planning a fishing trip & needs some sinkers, or has an aircraft engine that doesn’t run quite right, Mike Habig has a bunch of "miracle plugs" that he’s trying to get rid of.

Delbert Davis suggested that we put a picture in the newsletter each time the "Dork Award" changes hands. That was just before he landed prematurely in a big tree while the current holder of the prestigious award was watching. Now Delbert & Charlie are working on an agreement to stay out of each other’s trees.

Isn’t the English language funny? Is it exponential or ex-potential? Sopwith or Sofwhip? PCM or PMC? Fly market or flea market? Nuclear or nukular? Whatever it takes to get the point across & entertain the troops. You "knew" (pronounced new) what they meant anyway didn’t U?

Mr. Jason Breeden, Mr. Deven Mellott, Mr. Jerry Quick, & Mr. Austin Bryant are the current active trainees on Tuesday evenings. All are doing very well.

It’s a terrible feeling when you damage an airplane during a bad landing but ask Randy Byers how it feels when you step on your airplane in the pits. It’s a good thing that Tim Mellott (the current "Dork Award" holder) wasn’t there to see that!

Charlie Thompson came to Randy’s rescue & had his Kadet back in action in record time.

For Sale

Mike Habig has some stuff for sale:

Sign up now for your new e-mail address at monroecountyrc.org!

As part of our club web site move to Yahoo. Mr. Vargha Manshadi has announced that all paid up members of the Monroe County R/C Club are eligible for a free e-mail address at monroecountyrc.org. You can request a specific address using a form on this web site: http://www.monroecountyrc.org/ssl/index.html.

This form will only be available until September 19 to request a specific address. After that time, Vargha will assign an address to you.

Note: An announcement was e-mailed, to our mass e-mailing list, regarding the online request form for new e-mail accounts. Information on how to gain access to the online form is included in the e-mail. At this stage, no e-mail accounts will be created for our younger members, under the age of 18. This matter needs to be addressed at our next club meeting, and we need to vote on whether or not to have e-mail accounts for youth. A proposal will be written on the subject to address safety issues, parental consent, limited resources (available e-mail accounts), and account payment for younger members who are currently not obligated to pay for membership.

Please send any questions to: administration@monroecountyrc.org

Thanks for all your hard work Vargha!
